Mrs. Voshell enjoys teaching all of the novels and various authors in her curriculum. She states that it’s impossible for her to pick a favorite,
“It’s like picking a favorite child.”
She says that when she teaches each book she really gets into it, liking them all individually. However, she pointed out Edgar Allen Poe, stating that she likes teaching that for the “shock value.” She also says that she enjoys teaching old novels such as Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and the Canterbury Tales. If she had to choose personal favorites, she says that her favorite books would be To Kill a Mockingbird and Pride and the Prejudice, with her favorite author being Jane Austen.
In becoming an English teacher, Mrs. Voshell tells us that she did not always want to be an English teacher. Throughout the entirety of her life, her friends and family would encourage her to pursue this career path. However, she chose to study business, causing her to become a credit coordinator for nine years. After having her children (Bynn: 14 and Ainsley: 12), she realized that this career path wasn’t for her, and she had no desire to climb up the corporate ladder. She went back to college at Kutztown University for her Teaching Certification. Mrs. Voshell now realizes that she made the right choice in choosing her career, content with her current position as an English teacher. She currently attends Millersville University where she will be getting her Masters Degree in Secondary Education. In her free time, Mrs. Voshell likes to spend time with her family (her kids), scrapbook, and walk her dogs.
