Semilla
My grandmother is a tree at heart.
Living in the city;
Brooklyn, New York.
She lines her potted plants on the windowsill of the kitchen,
And stands there behind them.
Watering them from a plastic cup,
And humming, as if she’s remembering home.
Aguadilla, Borinquen.
Which literally translates to “watered smalls”.
Because it overlooks the Atlantic on a north and west border.
I can’t help but think that she stands there at the window,
Because like her green peppers, she’s using the sunlight to grow,
And feel closer to her roots.
