Tim Ritchie from WLBR was in attendance, and saw the benefit of such an event.
“We are here to show kids what life is like beyond high school in a practical real world setting”
Four years of high school flies by, and many students remain uncertain about their career paths. Attending career fairs give students a sneak peek of possibilities.
Businesses Dauphin and Lebanon Counties came to show the students how to apply their educational levels to specific careers. Businesses cames with information on internships, shadowing opportunities, and the education level needed for specific jobs.
State Police officer Daniel Gonzalez said, “Most people who want to become a cop, think the job is what you see on TV. The reality is most of what you see on TV is only ten percent of the job.”
The career fair can open your eyes and show that maybe what you think you want to do, might not really be something you’re interested in. All the businesses agreed that putting the students in a beyond-the-classroom-environment helped, not only with finding good career options, but also teaching students how to properly interact with adults.
Over one hundred students visited the fair throughout the day and gained a remarkable amount of experience. We are sure next year’s career fair will be even bigger and better.
