On Saturday afternoon the NL girls’ basketball team fell to Lampeter-Strasburg at Lampeter-Strasburg High School in the Lancaster-Lebanon league quarterfinals by a score of 47-38. Strasburg jumped out to a 12-0 lead on NL. After the game head coach Battistelli noted, “It’s not fluky or anything like that. If you’re playing solid, if you’re doing what we’re supposed to be doing… they (the Pioneers) usually shoot pretty well in the first quarter and then it starts to go away, but we never did what we were supposed to do on defense.”
Zara Zerman had a team high or 18 points and Liz Voight had 10 points. Northern Lebanon is now 18-5 for the year and currently sit 5th in the current District 3 4A rankings. Coach Battistelli commented, “We have a long wait until districts start and we’ll have plenty of time to talk about this.”
Head coach Battistelli stated, “I don’t know if it’s the excitement or nerves. Tension causes a lot of stuff to occur. We’ve shown that fairly often throughout the season. Different squad, and things affect everybody differently. The second time we played Lebanon Catholic, this was the same game: kids playing as hard as they can but without any kind of plan.
The Vikings have a first round bye before opening the District Championships next Friday. They won the last year’s District 3 4A Championship before making a run into the Elite 8 of the PIAA State Championships.
