As the winter season gets underway it is time for the winter sports to come into light for NL. As always, students and community members are excited for Girls’ basketball. And why wouldn’t they be? The girls only captured the L-L Section Championship before going on to win the District III Title. Ken Battistelli has been a coach of NLGBB for the past ten seasons. I sat down to talk with Coach Ken Battistelli to discuss this year's upcoming season. The Northern Lebanon Girls’ Basketball team’s first game is this Friday December 8th at Northern Lebanon High School, where the Vikings host their Tip-Off Tournament.
The members of this year varsity team are Liz Voight, Cassiah Ray, Jenna Wentling, RaeAnn Lessing, Emma Kelliher, Zara Zerman, Tabitha Hubbard, and Lindsay McFeaters. Last year the team made it to the state quarterfinals, and become district champions. This year the team hopes to be undefeated and win the state title. You can do it girls! There is no off season for the NLGBB team, as they work hard during the “off” season, and work even harder during the “on” season.
Coach Battistelli's advice for his girls this season is to “ run, hit, and run.” When asked how hard it is to lose the senior players to graduation Coach Battistelli replied, “It is always extremely difficult saying goodbye to kids who have given so much of themselves to their team and myself. We never truly let go however; we are a family forever.”
Coach Battistelli’s advice for his team this year is “The world looks very different when viewed from the eyes of the lion or the lamb.....see as the lion does, and all before you is prey.” Thanks Coach for taking the time to sit down and talk with me. Have an awesome season girls!
