The win was not only the Viking’s eighth win in a row, but it propelled them to the District 3 third seed which means they will host a playoff game this Friday. The opening round game will be an all LL game, as Lampeter-Strasburg will travel to NL for the 7pm kickoff.
Friday’s championship showdown saw the Vikings take a 7-0 lead into the locker room at the half thanks to a 24-yard TD strike from Michigan Daub to Christian Trader. While Lancaster Catholic did a great job of stopping the NL run game led by 1,000 yard rushed Stevie Herb, the Crusaders made a critical mistake when they sent the second-half kickoff deep. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Stevie herb took it 90 yards for a touchdown, giving NL a 14-0 lead. Catholic battled back to ties the game at 14 late in the second half. Pinned deep in their own territory, the Crusaders tried to run the ball. Michigan Daub came up with maybe the biggest play of the night when he forced and recovered a fumble on the LC 8 yard line. The very next play Daub kept it himself and walked into the endzone for a 21-14 lead.
With time dwindling, catholic marches into NL territory, but on the final play of the game, the Viking defense swatted down a pass, and with in the Crusader's hopes of winning.
“It’s great,” Daub said. “I’m at a loss for words. We’re a family, and we preach all the time at practice about picking each other up. Everyone did their job, and I think that’s why we were able to pull out this victory. Wow. That’s all I can say. Just wow.”
