Our Artist of the Month for December is senior Khadija Sekandari. She has been taking Sculpture this year and was previously enrolled in Drawing and Design. She was introduced to art in 9th grade when she was enrolled in Fundamentals of Art. Since then, it has become a significant and beneficial aspect of her life.
Mrs. Zemba shared that Khadija has a wide range and the ability to excel in a variety of mediums in her art classes. Khadija also enjoys participating in various mediums of art, especially paint and clay. Her favorite piece that she has created is her painting of “Bold and Brash” (shown above). Her favorite artists are Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol. Regarding more classical art, she enjoys the work of Claude Monet. Mrs. Zemba states that Khadija is well-rounded and has a great personality.
Khadija’s not planning to pursue art in college, but will allow it to still play a major role in her life, as she plans to continue partaking in art as a hobby. She will be pursuing psychology at the University of Pittsburgh.
She states that she finds her inspiration through a variety of means, mainly through other art she finds online; however, she makes it a priority to still maintain a sense of originality. “I want to be Sekandari, not secondary.”
