Boy’s basketball is on the way! Led by coach Chris George, the young, scrappy team is getting ready for another exciting season.
This is coach George’s 4th year as head coach at NL, and his 9th year as a head coach overall. He loves coaching and is inspired by the atmosphere, helping the kids become better athletes and teammates as well as his never ending love for the game.
This year there are several kids coming up from the junior high team to join the varsity players, as well as the seniors, Eyan Margut and Josh Bowers, who will be playing their last season for NL this Winter. Coach George highlighted there will be lots of opportunities for students to be a part of promotional and charity nights, such as $1 hotdog night, free soda and candy night, as well as a charity night that’ll be partnered with the Lebanon-Lancaster League to help people with cancer There will be t-shirts on those nights and a variety of other items that will be sold to give money to charity.
We sat down with sophomore Nate Shirk and asked him about his goals for this season and reasons for choosing basketball out of all the winter sports.
His goals this season are to improve overall as a team since the their in a rebuilding stage and to prove throughout this year and beyond that they have what it takes to be a great team, and set an example for the younger players.
Their biggest rival this year would have to be ELCO considering the history they have. He’s been playing basketball since 4th grade and began playing because he enjoyed watching basketball and figured he’d try it out and quickly grew love for the game.
His favorite part of being on the team is the camraderie, passion, and love for the game you and your teammates have.
