“The tone/actions of a large number of NFL fans in the midst of our country’s cultural crisis, have convinced me that I do not belong there,” wrote Odoms, who joined the Ravens in 2014.
Odoms, who is a Baltimore native and a member of the Maryland Army National Guard, stated in an interview with Vic Carter of WJZ that as a member of the military, he is not offended by the players’ actions but did not want to get mixed up in the controversial discussion.
“I support the protest personally,” said Odoms. “If I express how I feel, a segment of the fan base would attack me.”
In 2014 Odoms fulfilled his lifelong dream of singing the National Anthem for the Ravens. He even asked Ravens coach John Harbaugh if he could audition while Harbaugh was visiting Odom’s military base in Afghanistan.
