"Love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is done well.” - Vincent Van Gogh
This is multitalented Marlena Popson’s favorite quote by her favorite artist. We recently sat down with September’s artist of the month and asked her some questions about her life inside and out of the art room.
Marlena has enjoyed art since she was in elementary school and even has early memories of drawing on walls as a toddler.
“My mom wasn’t very happy” she added.
Marlena’s favorite medium to work with is acrylic paint. Her favorite thing about the art world is all of the people she’s gotten to know, “In the art room I've met some of the most understanding and down to earth people I've ever met in my life”. Her least favorite thing about art is the criticism and being compared to other artists. She informs us that although it’s hard to become an artist, art lets you express your feelings better than words can. “[Artist of the month] gives me courage that I'm good enough to go to school for art”.
After Marlena graduates in 2018, she plans to go to college and become an art teacher because she wants to teach kids how important art is.
In her free time, Marlena enjoys being a part of the musicals and plays for our school and watching the tv show Friends. She describes herself are unique, outgoing, and stubborn. Her favorite subjects in school are English and art. Her biggest support system is her parents and her boyfriend. Marlena also has two dogs and she says that she can’t live without them. Her advice to everyone is your outlook on life can change your future.
